Musical Voices Reception

In Reception, music is rooted in play, exploration and enjoyment, giving children their first experiences of making music together. Through singing, movement and the use of simple instruments, pupils begin to develop a sense of steady pulse, explore rhythm through clapping and patterns, and build early pitch awareness by listening and responding to high and low sounds. In line with the Early Years Foundation Stage framework and drawing on principles from the Model Music Curriculum, children are encouraged to listen attentively, respond physically and creatively, and express themselves with confidence. These early musical experiences lay the foundations for progression, nurturing curiosity, coordination and a lifelong love of music.
