Year 1

Year 1 music builds upon the musical foundations established in EYFS, developing children's confidence as singers, performers and listeners through a practical, engaging and inclusive approach inspired by the Kodály philosophy. Through singing, musical games, movement, listening and creative exploration, pupils develop a secure sense of pulse, rhythm and pitch while expanding their musical vocabulary and understanding. Lessons are carefully sequenced to ensure that new concepts are experienced, explored and practised before being named and understood, enabling all children to progress as confident and enthusiastic musicians. The curriculum nurtures creativity, collaboration and self-expression, while fostering a love of music and participation that supports every child to succeed.
